Jack Hutton’s Ragtime Calendar 2009

Jack HuttonYou can hear Jack playing on Lake Muskoka all July and August every Thursday evening in July and August. He will be aboard the RMS Segwun, the oldest steamboat of its kind still operating in North America. The three and a half hour trip, departing from the Gravenhurst wharf, is quite an experience. As the incredible Muskoka scenery passes by, you will hear Jack playing everything from Scott Joplin to the Beatles. Down below, you have an up-close opportunity to see how a steamship was fed by coal 100 years ago. For times and rates, contact the Muskoka Steamship Society at 1-866-687-6667 or at http://www.realmuskoka.com/steamship_segwun.php

May 16, Sunday, 2-5 pm

Jack will be performing with the Trillium Dixieland Jazz Band for the Simcoe Jazz Society. The location is the Sticky Fingers Bar & Grill at 199 Essa Road, Barrie, Ontario. Jack always enjoys playing with the Huntsville-based Trillium band, led by Bill and Marguerite Urban. To learn more about this first-rate New Orleans style band, click on http://trilliumjazz.com

Dick Hyman AND Peter Appleyard in Muskoka

Dick HymanPeter AppleyardJack will be the MC for a Gravenhurst Opera House performance by two jazz legends -- Dick Hyman, the most versatile jazz pianist on the planet, and Peter Appleyard, a Toronto-based vibes player who Benny Goodman featured night after night in his band. Last summer, Jack brought Dick Hyman, a long-time friend and mentor, to Gravenhurst for what turned out to be a totally sold-out evening. This year, the audience will hear two legends -- Hyman and Appleyard -- for the price of one! The only thing Jack has asked for specifically is to hear Dick and Peter play Richard Rodgers' classic tune "Lover", with Peter playing the top octaves of Dick's piano with two fingers at blistering speed. To reserve tickets, contact the Gravenhurst Opera House at 1-888-495-8888. Don't wait too long! This promises once again to be a sell-out with disappointed late-comers.

Aug. 27, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Jack Hutton and Friends

Jack Hutton and FriendsJack Hutton and Friends has developed quite a following. The quintet only performs once a year, and usually for sold-out audiences. This year it will be at the Gravenhurst Opera House with a segment highlighting the music of Richard Rodgers and his two quite different lyricist partners, Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein. On hand again will be Brian Bauer playing every saxophone known to man, Bob Livingston on trombone, Ric Giorgi on string bass and bass saxophone, Willie Wilson on banjo and guitar, and Jack on piano. To reserve, contact the Gravenhurst Opera House at 1-888-495-8888.

Don’t forget that you get a chance to hear Jack every time you visit Bala’s Museum with Memories of Lucy Maud Montgomery! The museum’s 1920 Cecilian upright piano is on the front cover of his book, The World is Waiting for the Sunrise. That’s the one that you may hear him play during your tour.
