Lucy Maud Montgomery and Bala: A Love Story of the North Woods

Our book was written to answer many unanswered questions about "The Blue Castle". Why did Maud and her family choose Bala for a holiday in 1922? What inspired her to write "The Blue Castle"? Why did she choose an unlikely name like Valancy for her heroine? How many people in Bala knew in the summer of 1922 that a famous Canadian author was holidaying in their midst? Our book also tells the story of our little museum, which we like to think has its own love story. But we don’t want to give away surprises. You’ll have to read the book for yourself.

LMM Commemorative Plate and Mug

We take great pride in continuing to offer the only commemorative items that were created in 1999 for the 125th anniversary of L.M. Montgomery’s birth.

The plates are a numbered limited edition, designed by Linda Jackson-Hutton and licensed by the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery. They are packaged in a way that allows them to be shipped safely to any part of the world without fear of damage.

We are not aware of any other commemorative item that has ever been created in L.M. Montgomery’s memory. Hundreds – perhaps thousands – of items celebrate Anne, LMM’s famous literary creation, but we don’t know of even one for the author herself. So this may be a first. If so, we are proud that Bala’s Museum with Memories of Lucy Maud Montgomery did it.

This croup medicine saved Minnie Mae’s life

We have a limited number of (empty!) medicine bottles with vintage labels advertising a croup medicine similar to what Anne used to save Diana Barry’s baby sister. (“Down that ipacec went, not only once but many times during the long anxious night ...” Anne of Green Gables) Here is the collector’s item that you were missing for your collection.
