Don't Miss the Activities for 2003
Saturday, July 23, 2005 Come to Bala for a grand celebration! Ever since the opening of Balas Museum on July 24th, 1992, we have re-enacted the 1922 arrival of L.M. Montgomery. This year the celebration is moving across the street to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Inn at Roselawn. Thats only appropriate because Roselawn was the destination of L.M. Montgomery and her family when they arrived on July 24th, 1922. The annual lawn party usually held at Balas Museum will take place across the road at the Inn at Roselawn (1039 River Street), starting at 2 p.m. If you want to take a photo or video of LMMs arrival, get there at least 10 minutes earlier to be in place (and bring your own lawn chair). The program will include live music, cake and ice cream and a fashion show highlighting clothes worn after 1903. Local models will be showing off vintage bathing costumes, Roselawn chambermaid uniforms, flapper clothes and what a well-dressed couple wore to Dunns Pavilion in the 40's. Linda Hutton says the inn will be entirely open for viewing by the public that day so people can see firsthand an important part of Balas history. "Roselawn was part of Balas beginnings," says Linda. "It is one of the few Muskoka inns from that era which is still around and getting better every year." (The inn is not taking reservations for that day to make the entire inn accessible for tours). Saturday, October 15 - Cran-Anne Look-Alike Contest. What would Anne Shirley look like if she came to the Bala Cranberry Festival? Come along to the look-alike contest at Bala's Museum at 2 p.m. and find out. Contestants should register by l:30 p.m.. Prizes from Avonlea Traditions Inc. |
