We
were featured world-wide on CBCs The National
Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.
Balas
Museum was the subject of a 6-minute special report on CBCs
flagship news program, The National, on Friday, Jan. 20,
reaching more than 600,000 viewers across Canada. Many thousands
more have seen it around the world since that night through
CBCs international streaming.
The
special report (Finding a New Anne) told how Jack and Linda
have brought back to life a long-lost silent film, Anne
of Green Gables, using old movie stills to create a Powerpoint
presentation with Jack playing authentic silent movie piano
accompaniment. The script by Linda is based on the original
1919 scenario by Hollywood scriptwriter Frances Marion.
The
first major public showing of the re-created silent movie
was at the University of Prince Edward Island in 2008 in
front of delegates to an international L.M. Montgomery conference,
many of them old friends. The 40-minute presentation which
was filmed by Ontario videographer Lisa Lightbourn will
be available by early summer in a DVD format.
Linda
says the decision to share the 2008 showing of the re-created
silent movie was in response to the world-wide response
to the Jan. 20th CBC report. We heard from Taiwan,
Japan, Australia and other far-away places before we went
to bed that night, says Linda. Sharing our silent
movie re-creation is our way of saying thanks to folks who
took the time to write from around the world. Its
also a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our
little museum.
