HISTORY OF GIDLEY REAL ESTATE LTD. BROKERAGE

GIDLEY REAL ESTATE LTD. has been an active business in Bala since 1948.
However, the roots of the company reach back even further. Mark Gidley, now the Broker of Record for the company, is the great-grandson of Thomas Burgess Sr., the founder of Bala, who brought his family to settle here in 1868. Thomas and his sons gave the town a strong foundation on which it has continued to build. Mark's mother, Alison, born and raised in Bala, passed her passion for this beautiful town along to her son.

Mark's father, E. Walter Gidley, started working in Bala for Oliver H. McNeil Real Estate in the mid 1940's after many years in the real estate field in Windsor and London, Ontario. In 1948, he started his own company E. Walter Gidley Insurance & Real Estate. In the early 50's, he bought the Burgess Bake Shop property and built an office. It was an ideal business location with frontage on both Lake Muskoka and the highway through town. Today, the same busy corner in the heart of town offers easy access to walking, driving and boat traffic.

In 1968, Mark joined his Father in the business and took over the reins in the early 70's. Like his forefathers, Mark has always been actively involved in the community, both as a leader and a supporter. In 1995, the insurance portion of the business was sold, allowing Mark to devote his full time to real estate.

Mark and his sales team know it is a privilege to live and work in Ontario's most popular vacationland. They live by the company slogan, "Our Pleasure to Serve".
